We’re throwing our name in the hat for Mountain Xpress’s Best of WNC “Business That Best Represents the Spirit of Asheville.” We know this is a special category, and after serving the greater WNC area for more than 22 years and completing hundreds of unique projects, we’re ready to carry this torch! The backbone of Asheville’s appeal and success is the creative people who make this city what it is. Our streets are filled with music and art and fun, and the home theaters and audio systems we install wouldn’t exist without the folks behind these endeavors.

As we embark on the next chapter of Asheville’s history post-COVID, we, too, are going through a transformation under new ownership. Lifelong WNCer and long-time employee Tommy Calloway (Executive Producer of The Feral Chihuahuas, who won Best Comedy Troupe in the “Best of WNC” awards in 2010) recently took the reigns from founder Scott Varn, who is now shifting his focus to his nonprofit, Perserving a Picturesque America. Is that sentence “so Asheville” or what?! Harmony will carry on Scott’s legacy with a huge focus on giving back to the creatives that help us help our clients live their happiest and most creative lives by being inspired by their homes and businesses that keep the music and shows flowing. Beyond supporting PAPA, we will be doing monthly fundraisers for causes like Asheville Strong and Save Our Stages because we believe in the power of live music. We’re also collaborating with Asheville’s first brewery, Highland Brewing Company, for a fall disc golf tournament and will be co-hosting a disc golf tournament at the LEAF Retreat on May 14.

Speaking of LEAF, we’re proud to have helped bring their new downtown headquarters to life with custom AV solutions for their recording studio, intimate music venue, and gallery. We’ve actually collaborated more than 60 Asheville businesses create inviting spaces, including iconic Biltmore, beloved Curate, Asheville Community Theatre, and several breweries including Hillman Beer and Asheville Brewing Company–which we keep two kegs on tap of at all times in our showroom thanks to a long partnership with owner Mike Rangel, a steward of Asheville culture who we’ve also worked with on his latest endeavor, the amazing entertainment venue Rabbit Rabbit. The relationships we’ve built over 20+ years with other local business owners is one of our favorite parts of our work, and walking into these places, we have an immense amount of pride that we helped shape these fun atmospheres and contribute to making their businesses inviting and successful.

Our 60+ commercial clients in the greater Asheville area.

Beyond the work we do, our team embodies the Asheville spirit, too. Everyone on staff is a creative and wears multiple hats. We’re design-minded, outdoorsy, and lovers of Asheville. We’re musicians, actors, comedians, photographers, writers, foodies, craft beer geeks, DJs, and artists, including a synth expert, Chris Stack. Our owners Tommy Calloway and Shawndra Russell also host a podcast called The Great Reset, and they’ve interviewed dozens of local Asheville leaders including Asheville’s Mayor Manheimer, local venture capitalist and owner of Simbly, Josh Dorfman, and the North America Director of Environmental Paper Network, local Joshua Martin. We’re also one of the few custom AV integrators in the country that do what we do, just like so many of the unique businesses that chose to make Asheville their home base. We keep evolving and adapting to the changing technology, town, and clientele and we rely on our design-oriented minds to find solutions to all sorts of visions that folks have for their dream spaces—which has included themed rooms a la The Muppets and Lord of the Rings.

2021 will see a return to us hosting listening and watch parties that highlight our incredible local talent in our showroom’s lovely home theater as well as artist receptions and silent auctions. We will also be hosting unique pop-up events so we can support local chefs, mixologists, spirit makers, breweries, and artists so we can share our entertainment spaces with our community, including our ribbon cutting and grand re-opening on June 9 as new members of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce. We’re also excited to be new business members of LEAF, Asheville Downtown Association, and BNI. We strongly believe in the responsibility of local businesses to give back to their communities and be active as volunteers, activists, and leaders that help keep Asheville, Asheville. Our longer-term goals include becoming a B Corp, starting a nonprofit, and growing our team and business so we can make even more of a positive impact in our region. We also have the lofty goal of making Asheville the “Sound Chamber Capital,” designing and building custom sound chambers for health/wellness and yoga retreats as well as resorts and even backyard versions for people who want to experience a mind massage in these sensory-deprivation chambers that we believe could be the next big thing in self-care.

We’re so Asheville because we have helped shape this city’s vibe and help fill it with music, shows, sports, and most importantly, love. Because really, when we build out a home theater or a listening room or any gathering place, we’re paving the way for people to have inviting spaces for great conversations, laughs, and yes, filling their lives with more joy and more love. Because the spaces we collaborate on are where family and friends and customers will make lasting memories. Just like any time you’re out and about experiencing Asheville.
